“Never trust anyone who has not brought a book with them.”
― Lemony Snicket, Horseradish.

Ok, so we won't exactly distrust you if you don't bring a book to Dock Street South to swap for a 10oz beer on March 18, but extra credit if you do.

We've been doing our Rare Beer for School Supplies drive for a couple years now to collect notebooks, pencils, and other supplies for Lea Elementary, Samuel L. Powell, and other neighborhood schools.

This time, at the urging of some of nerdy-and-proud bookworms on our team, we're shifting the focus over to books, and we'll be sending them off to Mighty Writers, which has locations throughout the city. Some of the Mighty Writers volunteers and staffers will be in the house during the event, toasting to their awesome volunteers, so let’s raise our glass to them as we add a book to the pile!

Mighty Writers provides free writing classes, tutoring, and mentorship to children aged 7-17. Oh, and they got a pretty epic shout-out from President Obama:

“[Your] program’s selection as one of the 50 finalists distinguishes [Mighty Writers] as one of the top arts-and-humanities-based programs in the country.”

—President Obama’s Committee on the Arts and Humanities

Reason enough to bring in a new or gently-used book appropriate for avid readers and writers aged 7-17, right?
