DOWN THE STREET
A collaboration between Dock Street Brewery + Down the Road Beer Co.

Down the Street is, in our opinion, a great example (yes, we are a bit biased) of two breweries helping each other out and partnering up in a really fun, no-fuss way.

In the spirit of Brotherly Love and a healthy dose of rivalry (given that our cities are acute sports rivals these past few years), Dock Street Brewery of Philadelphia, PA and Down the Road Beer Co. of Boston, MA are collaborating on Down the Street, a pair of tea- and honey-infused Golden Pale Ales, to be released in 16oz cans in each city this September. Last month, Dock Street hosted the Down the Road brewery crew for drinks, brunch, sightseeing, a visit to Eastern State Penitentiary, eating and more eating, followed by a brew day on Monday morning. Later in August, we trekked up to Boston for a game at Fenway, lots more eating and drinking, and a day of brewing. (Scroll down for some pics from both trips.)

Besides sports, what really makes this particular collaboration special is the fact that neither brewery is available yet in the other's states, although we are both keen to enter the other's market. It represents the nature of the brewing industry - we're both opening our homes -literally, our breweries - to each other and helping each other reach a new market, and that is so unique to the craft beer biz. I can't imagine very many other industries where that would be a thing.

Also - the artwork for the cans is seriously awesome - it's a split label, with work by Dock Street resident artist Alexis Grant. One half includes the Philly skyline, an eagle, and other symbols of the city and Dock Street, and the other side follows a similar vein, with the Boston skyline, a lobster, and so on. The center of the can is based on Janus, the Roman god of beginnings, gates, transitions, etc. - our side features a woman (because hey, we're Dock Street ). The beer itself will also rep for both hoods - it's a pale ale with tea and honey (Boston Tea Party and PA honey).

West Philly-based Dock Street Brewery collaborated with Down the Road Beer Co. of Everett, MA on this tea-infused brew, proving that when beer is involved, we can put our rivalry behind us. After a few days of Philly imbibing, DSB and DTR hit the brewhouse to create this beer using local Orange Blossom Honey and Sencha Matcha Green Tea, 2-Row, Maris Otter, and Wheat. Down the Street is hopped and dry hopped with Loral, Czech Saaz, and Citra. The label artwork is a collaboration between Philly-based artist Alexis Grant and Boston-based artist Sarah Dahlinger, representing both cities and featuring the skyline, symbols and iconography of both locations.
